Hi there!
Last year we went to Italy on vacation. This was such a bummer for us, so when we heard that ANA (Japanese airline company) started with direct flights from Brussels to Tokyo for a very reasonable price we didn't have to think long! I still have to complete my thesis, but once it's done (on May the 18th) we'll go to Japan again for a week. Only a week? Yes, unfortunately. My budget is pretty thin since I'm saving for my Asia 2016 tour and my boyfriend doesn't have a lot of vacation left since he has to come visit me in December (among other things). But we just couldn't resist going to Japan together. We'll stay in Tokyo, but we did plan a daytrip to Nikko and one to Kamakura and Yokohama. The first weekend we're there is also the weekend of a big festival called "Sanja Matsuri" and it's one of the 3 great Shinto-festivals in Tokyo. It's spread out over 3 days and receives 1.5 to 2 million visitors (both Japanese and tourists). This year we"ll be included in those daunting numbers! The festival honor the 3 men that founded Senso-ji, the oldest Buddha temple in Tokyo. During the weekend there are around 100 palanquins being carried around in the streets, finishing with 3 special palanquins for the 3 men that founded Senso-Ji. The palanquins are used to transport deities around. Besides the festival, Nikko, Kamakura and Yokohama we'll also planning on visiting some special restaurants. We"ve already found one where you have to fish your own fish before you can eat it. We also found a bar where you feel like being inside of Alcatraz, because of the interior, acting of the waiters and the food on the table. We're also planning on finding some really good sushi to eat! We'll leave on the 19th of May and come back on the 28th. I'll try to upload stories and pictures while we're there, but chances are you'll have to wait until we're back! Japan, here we come again!!
